Lasik, Ultralasik and Refractive Surgeries in Abu Dhabi

LASIK is a quick and highly successful treatment to permanently improve the vision and avoid needing to use glasses or contact lenses. It can be performed on your eyes if they;
  • have a glasses power smaller than +5.00 or – 10.00
  • are not very dry on a daily basis
  • did not show signs of any problem with the cornea before, such as an injury or keratoconus

If you have a higher glasses prescription, even up to -20.00, it may be possible to correct your vision permanently by inserting an 'intraocular contact lens' (ICL) inside the eye. These corrections help the eyes to see for far distances without glasses in older patients (45 years+ patients will still need extra help for the reading vision) and vision at all distances for younger patients.

Is the procedure painful?

No, the LASIK procedure is relatively painless. Although you will be awake during the surgery, your eye will temporarily be made completely numb with eye drops. There may be some irritation when the drops wear off. This typically only lasts for 3 - 4 hours.

Most patients only report mild discomfort after ICL surgery. This is usually brief and easily relieved by mild painkillers such as paracetamol.

How quickly can I go back to work?

This depends on your job and the environment you work in. Office work is usually possible the day after LASIK, and desk work will not harm your eyes provided that you are able to administer your aftercare drops on time. Implant-based procedures (RLE and ICL implantation) usually require about 1-3 days for the vision to stabilize but most patients can drive and return to work after 48 hours.

When can I start playing sports and other activities?

Playing sports (apart from contact sports) is safe after one week, and patients can fly within a few days. We would advise you to refrain from playing any contact sports or swimming for one month.

Can I have both eyes treated on the same day?

Laser corrective surgery is almost always carried out on both eyes simultaneously. Other types of corrective surgery, such as lens replacement and ICL surgery are carried out on one eye at a time with at least five days between each procedure.

Your suitability for a successful LASIK or vision correction procedure depends on many factors, so please contact the clinic for an initial appointment and discussion of our treatments.
