An eye squint or Strabismus as it is medically named, is a condition when the eyes appear to be pointing in different directions
One eye may turn inwards, outwards, upwards or downwards while the other eye looks forward.
Squints are evident in children and adults, commonly they can affect 1 in 20 children.
They usually appear by the time a child is 5 years old but can appear later in life.

Squints can cause:

  • Blurred vision
  • Double vision
  • Lazy eye (amblyopia) – when the brain starts to ignore signals coming from the eye with the squint

Symptoms

  • Symptoms of squint problems can include fatigue, headaches, double vision, difficulty with reading and loss of depth or 3-D vision.
  • Often the one sign of a squint is when a child starts to adopt a tilted head position to see normally.

Treatments for Squint
Common treatments include glasses, Patching regimens eye exercises and medical treatment such as Botulinum A toxin injections.
When these options are not effective or considered inappropriate for Adults, surgery may be required.
